Downtime
Almost none. Mild redness right after treatment typically fades within 1–2 hours. Makeup is fine immediately and you can return to daily activities the same day — a lunch-hour appointment and back to work in the afternoon is completely doable.
Effect onset
There's a subtle tightening sensation immediately after, but the real results come as collagen fills in — typically 1–2 months later. Around weeks 4–6, you'll start thinking, 'Wait, do I look different?' In photos, the jawline definition becomes unmistakably clearer.
Effect duration
3–6 months. With good aftercare, effects can last up to 6 months, though many people start noticing the effect fading around the 3–4 month mark. Regular sessions produce a cumulative effect that makes results last longer over time.
Recommended cycle
Once every 3–4 months. Satisfaction is higher when you start with a series of 2–3 sessions to build a base, then continue with maintenance sessions every 4 months.
Aftercare
No sauna, steam room, or washing your face with hot water on the day of treatment (additional heat worsens swelling and slows recovery)
Avoid high-strength irritants (retinol, AHA/BHA, etc.) for 2 weeks — the skin is recovering from microscopic thermal injury
Apply sunscreen diligently (heat-stimulated skin is more vulnerable to pigmentation)
Keep well-moisturized (heat can temporarily dehydrate the skin)
Avoid alcohol for 2–3 days (can aggravate swelling and inflammation)
Side effects
The main concern is cheek hollowing. People with little cheek fat who get too many shots to the cheeks risk fat breakdown, causing sunken cheeks that are difficult to reverse. Otherwise, temporary redness and mild swelling are the most common reactions.
Not recommended for
Very lean face with little cheek fat (cheek hollowing risk — once fat is lost there, it's hard to reverse)
Metal implants in the treatment area (e.g., orthodontic wires — ultrasound reacts with metal and can cause burns)
Active severe acne or pustules (heat can worsen inflammation)
Very thin or sensitive skin (may overreact to heat stimulation)
Keloid-prone individuals (abnormal scarring risk after heat injury)
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Best combos
Shurink + Skin Botox: Shurink defines the jawline while Skin Botox refines pores and fine lines — a popular same-day combo.
Shurink + Thermage: Shurink lifts from deep within; Thermage tightens the surface. The ultimate lifting + tightening duo — highest satisfaction if your budget allows.
Shurink + Rejuran/Juvelook: Post-lifting regeneration booster to maximize collagen production.
Shurink + Filler (cheeks/nasolabial): Lift the overall contour with Shurink, then fill sunken areas with filler for a three-dimensional result.
Differences from others
Shurink vs. Ultherapy: Both are HIFU, but Ultherapy delivers stronger energy with longer-lasting effects (up to 1 year), earning its premium price tag — 5–10x more expensive and significantly more painful. Shurink is the cost-effective HIFU option.
Shurink vs. Thermage: Shurink lifts from deep (pulling), Thermage tightens the surface (firming). For a sagging jawline, go Shurink; for pores and fine lines, go Thermage. Combining both gives a synergistic effect.
Shurink vs. InMode: InMode pairs suction with RF energy, making it more specialized for fat reduction. If sagging is the main concern, Shurink is better; if cheek fat or a double chin is the issue, InMode is better.
Price
300 shots: ₩80,000–200,000 / 500 shots: ₩150,000–300,000 (as of 2025). Promotional prices as low as ₩50,000 for 300 shots exist, but always verify genuine cartridges.
Why prices differ
Shurink is a Korean-made device, so it's significantly more affordable than Ultherapy. Even within Shurink, prices vary widely based on genuine vs. refurbished cartridges, shot count, and whether a doctor or nurse administers the treatment. Very low prices often indicate refurbished tips, which deliver inconsistent energy and reduced effectiveness.
Hospital selection tips
1) Verify genuine cartridges. Ask them to open a new cartridge in front of you before treatment. Refurbished (refilled) tips have inconsistent energy output — risk of uneven results or burns.
2) A good clinic will assess your face and customize where shots are placed. Anywhere that gives everyone the same 300-shot package without examining your face is a red flag.
3) If you already have hollow cheek areas, tell them in advance to avoid those spots — otherwise they may target exactly those areas, causing more fat loss and a gaunt appearance.
